What is a Rumble Bar?

A Rumble Bar is a safety device that is typically used to improve safety in a variety of settings, including bicycle lanes, Centre dividing lanes, median strips, separation lanes, and fast food drive-thru lanes. Sometimes they are referred to as Pavement Bars, Judder Bars or Rumble Strips. These are usually 300MM or 600MM (L) X 170MM (W) X 50MM (H)

The Rumble Bar is typically made of durable, weather-resistant rubber material and is designed to be placed on the ground. These are typically either YELLOW or WHITE. It is designed to create a rumbling sensation and noise when a vehicle drives over it.

When used in fast food drive-thru lanes, the yellow rubber Rumble Bar is typically installed perpendicular or 90 degrees to the curb, at both the ordering speaker box at the entrance to the lane and the payment and collection windows. These are the places that vehicles are closest to the curb and the building.

As a car passes over the Rumble Bar, the noise and vibrations serve as a warning to the driver that they are getting to close to the curb. This can help to reduce the risk of gutter rash to the customers vehicle and potential damage to the building and property.
